The controversial CBI matter, which is now being dealt in the Supreme Court, might take another twist as the director Alok Verma has submitted his response to the CVC with severe allegations.

The CVC, which was asked by the Supreme Court to inquire the matter, has demanded a clarification from the CBI director Alok Verma, who has reportedly said that special director Rakesh Asthana, PMO and BJP leader Sushil Modi were together planning the arrest of RJD leader and former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the IRCTC scam.

Verma in his reply to the CVC has said that, when Rakesh Asthana, who was then additional director, suppressed the fact that a complaint related to the same matter was sent to the CBI in 2013-14 and was closed,” as reported by The Wire.

Verma added in his reply that, “the then AD, Mr Rakesh Asthana was in constant touch with Sushil Modi, a senior BJP leader from Bihar” and that “a senior official in the PMO was constantly following up on the case”.

The preliminary enquiry in the IRCTC scam case was ordered by the CBI director Alok Verma as he says that “the evidence was weak and more material should be collected before registering a RC”.

Verma added, “the non-inclusion of his (Saxena’s) name appears to be an oversight lapse on the part of supervising officers and not a reflection of the Director, CBI’s orders.”

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar was aware about the CBI enquiry that as going to be launched on the RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav. Verma responds to the CVC querry that, “since the senior official of the PMO was constantly in touch enquiring about the progress of the case, I had expressed these concerns to him. A decision was taken to inform the chief minister, Bihar and take him to confidence.”
