Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, on 3 January, was arrested by the CBI for his involvement in Rs 15,000 cr (approx) Rose Valley chit fund scam.

Early today, Bandyopadhyay had reached the CBI office for questioning. Before meeting the CBI, he was quoted by PTI as saying, "I was first called on 15 November, but I couldn't go as Parliament was in session. Then they called me again in the last week of December asking me to appear on 30 December. I told them I want to come on 18 January. But the CBI told me to come on 3 January, to which I agreed."

"Earlier, we had called him twice, but he did not turn up. He was again called on 30 December but he said he would come on 3 January. So now if he does not turn up, we will look into other options after 3 January," a CBI official had told PTI on condition of anonymity.

This is the not the first TMC leader who has been arrested in connection with the chit fund scam. Prior to this, Tapas Pal was also arrested on 27 December 2017.
