Bengaluru: Young man refuse to stand for National Anthem, attacked by mob in theatre; arrested

In a shocking incident, a man was arrested by Bengaluru police on Wednesday after the man refused to stand up while the national anthem was being played in a movie theatre.

The man was identified as Jithin Chand who is a resident of Sanjaynagar was allegedly attacked by a mob at INOX movie theatre where he went to watch Avengers: Endgame. After this incident, he took to his twitter handle and twitted about the incident that he was assaulted by thugs at the movie theatre as he didn't stand up during the national anthem.

Meanwhile, on Reddit, a 29-year-old man described the whole incident that he was physically assaulted by the moviegoers and on seeing this other people also started coming and hitting him. Even thugs also started beating him on the pretext that he didn't stand up during the national anthem in a movie theatre. He alleged that when this whole incident was taking place the manager was nowhere to be seen and when asked he refused of the incident.

As per The News Minute report, Jithin who is booked under the Prevention of Insult to National Honours Act for disrespecting the national anthem claimed that initially, police told him that they want to take his statement as he wanted to file a case against the mob who attacked him. And as soon as he reached police station they started behaving in a hostile manner towards him and soon detained him.

According to the report, police told that they arrested him as a complaint was filed against him that he showed disrespect towards the national anthem.

Around two years ago Supreme Court passed the order that it's not mandatory to stand during the national anthem if it is being played inside a movie theatre.
