Beef export, cow slaughter on the rise in BJP regime: Shankaracharya Swaroopanand

Despite the hue and cry over cow slaughter and beef ban, the export of beef and incidents of cow slaughter have increased since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, claimed Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati.

"Slaughtering of cows is on the increase since BJP came to power. The export of beef has also increased under the BJP government," said Swaroopanand.

The Shankaracharya of the Dwarka-Shardapeeth said a total ban should be enforced on cow slaughter and a law should be drafted soon about the same. 

Appealing to all political parties, he urged that the Ram Mandir issue shouldn't be politicised. "Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is saints' responsibility and political parties should not politicise it," he added.

Speaking on the issue of women's organisations seeking entry into core areas of certain temples, he said, "Pune-based women's group Bhumata Brigade is fooling people... If they are so concerned about women's empowerment, they should launch a campaign against low female literacy rate."
