Hours after two terror attacks rocked Srinagar - at Zadibal and Tengpora - on 23 May, security forces gunned down two militants in an encounter in Sarai Bala area near Lal Chowk.

Two policemen were killed in a terrorist attack on Srinagar's Zadibal police station. Hours later, another policeman was killed in an attack in the Tengpora area. Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for both the attacks.

In the wake of the twin attacks, security forces launched an operation in Maharaja Bazaar when they apparently received information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official told PTI.

According to a PTI report, one of the dead militants was reportedly identified as Saifullah, a top commander of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad in the Kashmir Valley. The identity of the other militant, who was killed in a gunbattle with security forces late on 23 May, is yet to be ascertained.
