Madurai: In a disturbing incident in Tirumangalam, Tamil Nadu, a man named S Sankaranarayanan threw acid on two college students near their campus in 2014.

Perpetrator and Sentencing
The Madurai Mahila Court has sentenced S Sankaranarayanan to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for his vicious act.

Victims' Injuries
The victims, Meena and Angaleshwari, endured significant harm, with Meena sustaining 25 per cent burns and Angaleshwari suffering 15 per cent burns. Both were treated at Government Rajaji Hospital.

Court's Rationale
Given the severity of the case and the profound physical and mental anguish experienced by the victims, the court deemed a lenient sentence inappropriate, opting for a stringent punishment.

Punitive Measures
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on the accused, underscoring the gravity of the offence.

The Madurai Mahila Court's verdict underscores a commitment to justice in cases of acid attacks, recognizing the profound impact on victims and emphasizing the need for stringent consequences.
