A 12-year-old girl succumbed to a heart attack as well as dehydration in drought-hit Maharashtra's Beed district, on Sunday.

Even though Yogita Desai had been suffering from dysentery since a few days, she had no choice but to made five trips a day to fetch water from the nearest water pump in the village, an NDTV report said.

The girl had been helping her family in the daily chores. While trudging to the water pump for the fifth time on Sunday, 16 April, she collapsed. The doctors who attended to her, declared her dead.

"There is a severe water crisis. She had gone to fetch water, where she felt giddy and collapsed," Yogita's kin told NDTV.

Beed is one of the severely drought-affected districts in Marathwada.
