Amid surging air pollution, here’s how you can take care of your eyes

As most of the states in India are reeling under air pollution, people have started complaining of lung, throat, and eye problems.

Toxic air and smog can cause inflammation in the eyes and lead to various eye problems such as watery eyes, burning sensation or pain, redness, sore eyes, itching sensation, and dry eyes. However, it is important to take extra care of your eye while you are out.

Follow these tips and take care of your eye health.

When you're out and about, always remember to wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your eyes. As a result of the countless items our hands' touch, they become contaminated with bacteria, dirt, and other invisible stuff.

Also, remember to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated because it allows tear formation. Hydrating yourself is very important as smog or air pollution increases the probability of dry eye inflammation. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water is considered ideal.

Add omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. Leafy vegetables, carrots, walnuts, berries, spinach, almonds, and fish are among the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids.

Wearing sunglasses that completely cover your eyes is an old-school yet safer approach.

Due to air pollution, your eyes may itch and feel like they are burning; do not rub them.
