Volcanic eruption in Guatemala kills 25, injures hundreds

At least 25 people and 20 injured after volcanic eruption took place in the south of Mexico Guatemala on Sunday. This is the second eruption this year. The government's national coordinator said that the volcanic vent has covered river with red-hot lava. It has also created a cloud of smoke up to six miles.

Officials confirmed that death toll due to the volcanic eruption has reached up to 25. Residents are forced to evacuate area nearby volcano. Besides residents of the states of Chimaltenango, Sacatepequez and Escuintla have been advised to stay safe from volcanic rocks and ash.

Nearly 3,100 have evacuated homes, an estimated 1.7 million people are going to be affected by the eruption. At least 12 children and 3 adults have been hospitalised because of the severe burn. 

Guatemala’s Volcan de Fuego, Spanish for “volcano of fire,” is one of the most active volcanoes. On Sunday the volcano exploded and rained volcanic vent over popular tourist destination forcing a closure of the international airport.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said,"All our solidarity and support to President Jimmy Morales and the Guatemalan people for the loss of human life after the eruption of the volcano of Fire."
