UP: Five arrested for setting on fire rape survivor

Gangrape survivor set afire by five men in Unnao

A rape victim from Unnao district in Uttar was on Thursday allegedly set on fire by a group of five men, including one who was accused of the crime. 

Five men have been arrested in this connection.


 According to reports, the woman was on her way to the railway station to catch an early morning train to Rae Bareli when she was stopped by the accused. Then the accused persons hit her head and attacked with a sharp weapon on her neck. As the woman slumped, they poured kerosene on the body and then set her on fire.

The accused fled the scene soon after.

Later, some passersby came to her rescue and informed the local police. Soon the police reached the spot and sent the victim to a hospital for treatment.

"Victim referred to a hospital in Lucknow for better treatment. We have rounded up 3 accused, search for 2 others is underway. The victim had earlier filed a rape case, one accused in that case has also been rounded up," said the police.

The victim has been shifted to a government hospital in Lucknow and is in a critical condition, till the last report came in.


The woman was allegedly raped in March and the accused had later been granted bail.
