Telangana Dowry Case

In an extremely shocking incident reported from Telangana, a 24-year-old woman killed her two-year-old son and then herself on Sunday, 22nd May, allegedly over dowry harassment. The incident came to light from Narketpally mandal in Nalgonda district.

The woman, who has been identified as Lasya, first hanged her son, identified as Satwik, from the ceiling fan and then hanged herself.

The unfortunate incident was spotted by her neighbours, who rushed into their house and brought them down. However, they had both passed away by then, said Narketpally Circle Inspector (CI) Shiva Rami Reddy.

As maintained by a report by The Times of India, there was no suicide note found at the spot.

According to police, Lasya had got married to Naresh, a railway staff from Auravani village in Narketpally. They had tied the knot three years back and Lasya’s family had promised to give Rs 35 lakh as a dowry.

At first, they gave Rs 10 lakh to Naresh’s family. Naresh, who was posted in Telangana’s Medak district, had taken leave and was staying in Hyderabad to prepare for the state civil service exam.

However, Naresh told his family that he was no longer interested in it and asked for the remaining dowry money to start a poultry business.

“Due to the pressure, Lasya’s family had given him Rs 20 lakh about 20 days ago,” said the CI.

However, Naresh continued harassing his wife and demanded Rs 10 lakh more from her family since they had delayed giving the whole sum at the time of their wedding, reported The Times of India.

Police said that on Sunday, after Lasya’s mother-in-law had left her house, she first hung her minor son and then herself.

According to Nalgonda Superintendent of Police (SP), a case has been registered, but no arrests have been made so far.
