Tamil Nadu Gangrape case

In a horrifying incident reported from Tamil Nadu’s Chengelpet district, police took three men into their custody, and are looking for a fourth absconding accused, for the gang rape of a 31-year-old mentally disabled woman. The unfortunate incident happened on Wednesday, May 18, in a village.

As maintained by the police, the victim had been intellectually disabled since her childhood. Her parents were farm workers, who used to leave her alone at home. The four men, who are from the same village as the victim, knew about this, reported The Times of India.

Police said that the four men were intoxicated when they forced into the victim’s residence and gagged her to stop her from raising an alarm.

They carried the victim out and took her to the house of one of the accused. “They took her to the terrace of the accused’s house and gangraped her,” said a senior police officer.

Nevertheless, a local woman, who heard the victim’s cries for help, came in looking for her and raised an alarm when she caught the four accused men in the act of sexually abusing her. Within seconds of her alerting others people in the area, the four men had escaped.

The neighbours of the victim, who rushed to help her, noticed she was writhing in pain. They took her to the Chengelpet government hospital for medical attention.

When the victim threw light on what had happened to some of the women, they told her parents, who, in response, informed the police. “The woman has suffered several internal injuries. She was not able to realise she had been raped. Her condition is pathetic,” said the officer.

The four accused in the case were identified as D Ramanathan, 29, Ajay, 22 and Madhan, 20. They were remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday. A search operation for the fourth accused Sasikumar, 23, is underway.

The four accused gangraped a mentally disabled woman in Tamil Nadu's Chengelpet district. Three of the accused have been taken into police custody while a search operation is in prosses to arrest the fourth accused who is still at large.
