Nagpur woman held captive, raped and forced to bear child by couple

In what was a blood-curdling incident of crime coming in from Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain, a 21-year-old woman, native of Maharashtra was allegedly held captive, raped and forced to bear a child by a couple, police said.

The cops on Thursday took Rajpal Singh, aged 38, a former deputy sarpanch of Kath Baroda village into their custody, for allegedly holding the woman captive for 16 months, raping her and forcing her to bear a child, Superintendent of Police Satyendra Shukla said.


The horrifying case became known after the woman, a native of Nagpur, was found at Dewas Gate bus station, where the accused had left her in an unconscious state on November 6, the official said.

On coming back to her senses, the victim told the police about her ordeal on Thursday, he said.

The accused had allegedly purchased the victim with the help of a woman and brought her to Ujjain 16 months back, the police said.

In an alliance with his wife, identified as Chandrakanta, aged 26, the accused held the victim captive and raped her for a child, as the couple had lost their two children, the SP said.

After the victim gave birth to a baby on 25th October, the accused dumped her at a bus station on November 6, he said.

Other than the couple, the cops have also filed a case against Singh's relative Virendra, Krishna Pal and one Arjun, who acted as a tout, under sections 370 (human trafficking) 376 (rape), 376 A (persistent vegetative state to victim), 377 (unnatural sex), 365 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

A police team will be sent to Nagpur in order to probe the exact amount for which Rajpal bought the girl, the official said, further adding that efforts are underway to trace and arrest the other four accused.
