Kharge can't bring about change in Congress

Congress leader Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor on October 2 claimed that leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge would continue with the existing structure of the party and be unable to bring about change.

Tharoor will face veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge in the upcoming Congress presidential polls.

The Thiruvananthapuram MP further stressed that he and Kharge are not enemies and it is not a war that the two contenders for the grand old party’s chief post are engaging into.

Addressing an event in Nagpur, Tharoor said, “We aren't enemies, it's not war. It's a poll for our party's future. Kharge Ji comes in top 3 leaders of Congress party. Leaders like him can't bring change & will continue the existing system.”

“I'll bring change as per expectations of party workers,” he added.

Earlier, the Thiruvananthapuram MP expressed that he would be open to the idea of a public debate with Kharge.

Ashok Gehlot and Digvijaya Singh have already pulled out of the race and extended their support to Kharge.

Notably, after 25 years, Congress is about to elect a president who is not a Gandhi, as this time around no Gandhis are contending for the party's top position.

The results of the party polls will be announced on October 19.
