Kerala: Man brutally assaulted his 54-day-old daughter, newborn battling for life

In a horrifying case came to light from Kerala’s Kochi where a 30-year-old man tried to kill his 54-day-old daughter, who is now battling for life at a hospital.

As per reports in media, the accused man had allegedly hit the baby girl on her head and then threw her on to the bed after becoming suspicious of her parenthood.

The man has been identified as Shaiju Thomas, resident of the Angamaly area’s Josepuram. Police have arrested the accused man.

He has been living with his wife, older sister, and mother. Thomas's wife is of Nepali descent.

The shocking incident came to light when the family took the critically-injured newborn to a hospital for administering medical care.

According to timesnownews.com, the girl was first taken to a hospital in their locality and later to Kolenchery MOSC Medical College Hospital on Thursday.

At the time of hospitalization, the baby girl had bleeding in the brain and a low count of hemoglobin, TOI reported.

A senior doctor told TOI that they informed police after they found Thomas suspicious over his statements about the incident.

“The father at first said that the child was sleeping on the edge of the bed and when they woke up the child was found on the floor. Later, he said that he saw a mosquito biting the child and when he hit it, the child fell off the bed,” the doctor told.

Later, with the help of a translator, the police interrogated the baby girl’s mother. The woman told that her husband used to mistreat their daughter. He would often slap the baby if she cried. She also revealed some more spine-chilling details that how the man assaulted their daughter.

The woman told that the girl lost consciousness after being hit on her head and thrown her onto the bed.

During the investigation, police found that the accused also doubted the parenthood of the girl. Thomas also thrashed his sister and wife after getting drunk.

Meanwhile, the police booked the accused under the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
