In pictures: Rains fail to dampen Republic Day celebrations in Delhi

As India celebrated its 68th Republic Day, soldiers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led the parade at Rajpath. Their Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the chief guest at the ceremony. President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among hundreds of viewers.
A contingent of 179 personnel from the UAE army, navy and air force marched past, accompanied by their military band. The country, after France, is the second to send troops to participate in India's Republic Day parade.
In a special tribute to India on its 68th Republic Day, Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper, was lit up in the colours of the Indian Flag. The musical fountains next to the world's tallest building leapt to the music of Jai Ho and Vande Mataram.
India shares a strong friendship with UAE. Prime Minister Modi has called the United Arab Emirates a valued partner.
The elite National Security Guards, also known as the Black Cats, participated in the R-Day parade for the first time. Sixty commandoes, in their black overalls and full gear, gave the ceremonial salute to the President.
The parade showcased India's military strength, achievements and its diverse culture at the Rajpath. Light rains in the morning failed to dampen the celebrations. Here are some moments:
