Gurugram: Man shoots himself in ear, bullet travel through his head comes out other side and hits his wife

In an unusual incident, a man shot himself in the ear, only to have the bullet go through his head, and out the other side, and hit his wife in the neck, who was seated beside him in the car when the accident took place on Friday. The man (32) is fighting for his life at a hospital’s intensive care unit in Delhi. His wife, who is seven months pregnant, is no more in danger.

The reason behind the shooting appears to be an arguement regarding the man being jobless, the wife stated in her statement, as per the police.


Deputy commissioner of police (Manesar) Deepak Saharan stated that the bullet went through the man’s ear and went out of the other side and hit the woman in her neck. “The ballistics report is awaited. We have filed an FIR”.

A police official investigating the case and who talked about the condition of anonymity stated that such incidents of a bullet going through the body and hitting the other person are thin on the ground but not unusual. If the victims are in immediate vicinity to one another.

According to investigators, the man who has been without a job for a few months now, is serious and unconscious while his wife is out of danger. They are being attended to at Safdarjung hospital. The incident took place when the man was taking his wife, who is pregnant, to a doctor.

Investigating offficers stated that the couple hailed form Faridabad and shifted to a rented apartment in Rampura area in Gurugram few months ago. They further stated that the man separated from his wife in 2017 and shifted to Mathura to run a grocery shop. He met his second wife there and married her in 2019.

Furthermore, the official said the couple got into a quarrel because the husband wanted his wife to stay at her parent’s house after the check-up, “An argument ensued and the man parked the SUV and took out his pistol [and shot himself],” the officer said.

“In her statement, his wife said that they have been fighting for the past four days over his employment situation.”

A 7.62 mm bullet was used in the gun, police are looking into whether the man has a licence for the pistol or not.

A passer-by saw the couple and told the police, who took them to a civil hospital in Gurugram before they were taken to Safdarjung Hospital.

Based on the woman’s statement, the police said they have lodged a case under the Indian Penal Code’s section 309 (attempt to suicide) and under the Arms Act at Kherki Daula police station.
