Apparently despondent over the new Omicron varian of the coronavirus, a doctor allegedly killed his wife and two kids in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Friday. The doctor is presently at large and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.

As mentioned in a journal found at the site of the alleged murder, the doctor was perturbed over the new COVID-19 variant. In the journal, it was written, "Omicron will kill everyone. Due to my carelessness, I am stuck at a point from which it is difficult to escape."

Reportedly, the accused had been depressed for a long time.

The accused doctor, identified as Sushil Kumar, the head of the forensics department at Kanpur hospital, allegedly murdered his wife, aged 48, his son, aged 18, and daughter, aged 15 and then messaged his brother asking him to call the cops. Before the police or his brother could arrive, the accused doctor ran away from the spot.

On arriving at the crime spot, the police sent the three dead bodies for an autopsy. A blood-stained hammer was also recovered from the spot.

In the journal found at the spot, the accused had mantioned 'an incurable disease' he was suffering from. As per a report, the accused doctor wrote in the journal that he cannot leave his family in trouble and hence, set everyone on the path of liberation.

The police is looking at the doctor’s journal entry as a suicide note. They suspect that after carrying out the murders, the doctor committed suicide, either by drowning or some other means. Divers are trying to find the dead body in the river.

Kanpur ADCP while talking to India Today stated, "Today, we had divers looking for the body in the river. We have notified authorities to be on the lookout for a body at Atal Ghat and Sarsaiya Ghat as it is possible the doctor jumped in there. If need be, we will get steamers to search for the body."

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
