A group of people brutally thrashed a woman, aged 38, with sticks and iron rods and also beat her daughter in the national capital. Police said on Wednesday.

The horrific incident happened last month in Shalimar Bagh’s colony, further adding that two women, who led the assault, have been taken into police custody.

The assault on the woman and her daughter happened on November 19.

In her statement, the woman alleged that the assault was carried out by AAP MLA Bandana Kumari’s supporters, a charge that has been dismissed by the MLA.

The act, caught by a CCTV on a neighboring building displays two women beating the two with sticks after they get off the car. A group of boys, with sticks in hand, join them and started thrashing the woman in the parking lot of her residential colony. The accused later ran away from the spot when the woman started screaming for help.

The incident happened on November 19. The woman was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.

According to police the women, who led the assault, have been taken into custody. Search is on for the rest of the accused, police said.

In her statement, the victim alleged that they were assaulted by two women and four men, who she claimed were supporters of AAP MLA Bandana Kumari.

On 19th November, I along with my daughter were attacked by people known to AAP MLA Bandana Kumari. The attack happened because i had filed an FIR against the MLA's husband in 2019. I used to expose the wrongdoings by her. A number of complaints have been registered against them in the past too, the woman said.

The AAP MLA has denied all allegations and dubbed them "baseless".

"All these allegations are baseless...The woman (victim) lives in my neighbourhood and this has been her nature, she keeps accusing me every time. I have no connection with her or this assault," MLA Kumari was quoted as saying by PTI.
