In a horrifying incident reported from west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area, a 32-year-old man was allegedly thrashed to death by his neighbours, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Rupesh, a resident of the area said, further adding that six people have been taken into police custody with respect to the incident. As per the police, they were notified at around 11:45 pm on Monday regarding the altercation.

A police team arrived at the spot and got to know that the injured were already taken to the hospital. One of the injured, Rupesh, was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the hospital, police said.

The victim’s brother, identified as Mukesh, said that around 11 pm, an argument erupted between their neighbour Tarun and his wife Priyanka. Following that, Tarun’s father Ravinder, mother Anita, brother Puneet and cousin Deepa got enmeshed and they created a commotion, police said.

When Mukesh and his mother took a stand against it and the use of cuss words, the accused allegedly beat them up, the police said.

The victim, his father Rajbahadur and uncle Rajbir tried to calm the accused, but Deepa, Puneet and Ravinder called their friends and all of them allegedly beat up Mukesh, Rupesh and some other family members of the deceased with sticks, the police said.

By the time the police were informed, the accused had already ran away from the crime spot, the police added.

Mukesh suffered injuries on his head and right hand in the time of the incident. His father, mother, uncle and sister-in-law also suffered injuries, the police said.

A case has been lodged at the Rajouri Garden police station under various sections of the IPC, they said, further adding that Ravinder (48), his wife Anita (45), son Tarun (23), Tarun's wife Priyanka (21), Deepa (30) and Gaurav (19) have been taken into custody.

All efforts are being made to catch the remaining accused, the police said.
