Coronavirus Crime: 78-year-old father killed son as he refused to wear mask before stepping outside

A horrifying crime case has come to light amid coronavirus lockdown across the nation from North Kolkata where a father killed his son after he refused to put a mask on his face.

The tragic incident took place on Saturday when a 78-year-old father asked his 45-year-old physically challenged son to wear a mask before stepping out in the evening. In denial, the father got angry and allegedly murdered his son.


The accused man identified as Bansidhar Mallick surrendered himself to the police at the Shyampukur Police Station, after murdering his son, identified as Sirshendu.

According to the reports in Indian Express, the accused father strangulated his son with a strap of cloth after a quarrel broke out between the two over a mask.

As per Police officer, the 78-year-old man came to the police station at around 7 pm and surrendered himself for murdering his son.

The deceased was physically challenged, was killed at around 5:30 pm. In the investigation, police found that the relationship between the father and son was not cordial and they often fought over various issues.

Reports claimed that the accused is a retired employee of a private company while his physically challenged now-deceased son was unemployed.

Due to the novel coronavirus lockdown, the father asked his son to wear a mask while stepping out of the house but the victim was not inclined to listen to him. Several times the 45-year-old man ventured out without wearing a mask. This was the reason which made the old man angry and hence, he strangulated his son.

Meanwhile, police registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against a 78-year-old man.
