Hyderabad courts award community service to 62 drunken drivers

Two local courts awarded 62 people with social service or community service for 3 hours for three days today, after they were caught driving their vehicles in drunken state.The Third and Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Courts in Erramanzil here also awarded nine people imprisonment ranging from one-day to ten-days, besides imposing fines upto Rs 2,000 for drunken driving, while three others were sentenced till the rising of the court, an official release issued by Hyderabad Police stated.An anti-drunken driving campaign was carried out from July 29 to August 1 in different parts of the city and a total number of 306 cases were booked against drunken drivers, including 254 two-wheeler riders, 12 three-wheeler drivers and 37 four-wheeler drivers as well as three others, the release stated.A total of 9,405 cases have been registered out of which 1,262 drunken drivers have been imprisoned, till date, the release stated.
