Indian national team goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu became the first ever Indian footballer to play in a top-division European league, when he started for Norwegian club Stabaek in the Tippeligaen (Norway's top-flight) against IK Start on Sunday, 29 May.

Sandhu, who had made his competitive debut for Stabaek in a cup game last year, kept a clean sheet as his club thumped Start 5-0 to take their point tally to 10 points from 13 games.

The former East Bengal custodian had signed for Stabaek in 2014, and has been a mainstay in the Indian national team over the past few months.

Sandhu currently has 10 international appearances for India, and is set to resume services for the Blue Tigers when they take on Laos in the first leg of their 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying playoff on 2 June.
