I-League champions Mohun Bagan crashed out of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday, 2 February, after a 6-0 defeat at the hands of China's Shandong Luneng in the 2nd qualifying round.

The Chinese outfit piled the pressure on Bagan from the opening whistle, and created a few chances in the opening minutes. In the 23rd minute, the Mariners' defence finally caved in as Shandong midfielder Walter Montillo broke the dealock.

From then on, it was a completely one-sided game, as Bagan, missing the services of forward Cornell Glen, failed to create many significant clear-cut chances in the home side's half.

In the 40th minute, Diego Tardelli got on the scoresheet to double the lead for Shandong Luneng.

In the second half, Mohun Bagan shipped in four more goals, with Yang Xu scoring a brace and Zheng Zheng and Wang Yongpo getting one each to knock the Kolkata side out of the Champions League.

With the win, Shandong Luneng have booked a place in the final play-off round encounter against Australia's Adelaide United.
