Weather Update: No respite from heatwave in these states; heavy rain alert in Northeast

Heatwave are likely to prevail over areas of northwest India from Friday. As maintained by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heatwave conditions in isolated pockets are possible over Northwest India and Madhya Pradesh from 15th April.

The IMD, in a statement, stated, "Heat wave conditions in isolated pockets over East Madhya Pradesh on 13th , 16th & 17th; Bihar on 13th & 14th; Jharkhand during 13th to 15th; West Rajasthan during 15th to 17th; Gujarat State on 15th & 16th; Haryana-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan & West Madhya Pradesh on 16 th & 17th and over Punjab on 17th April, 2022."


According to the weather agency, a drop in the maximum temperatures are very likely over pockets of northwest India by about two degree Celsius in the next 24 hours and then shoot up by two to four degree Celsius subsequently. The maximum temperatures are also likely to increase by two to three degree Celsius over Gujarat till 16th April.

In the meantime, there will not be a significant increase in the maximum temperatures over most pockets of central India.

Meanwhile, the weather agency forecasted fairly widespread to widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam-Meghalaya and Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura in the next five days.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is to be expected over ghat areas of Tamil Nadu and over Kerala on 14th April. As per the MeT Department, light to moderate fairly widespread and rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning is very much probable over Kerala-Mahe and Lakshadweep.

In the meantime, Tamilnadu-Puducherry-Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are likely to see isolated or scattered rainfall in the next four to five days.
