Pondicherry Engineering college may soon become a technical university.
As per the state Higher Education Minister, R Kamalakannan, the 31-year-old government-run engineering institute will be upgraded to a technical university within a few years.
The minister was speaking at a two-day international conference on 'Advances in computational intelligence in communication' at the college on Wednesday. The upgrade will take place under the central scheme of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), under which the Centre will provide funds required for development of infrastructure and other amenities once the college is upgraded into a university.
The Minister called upon the college management to put in strenuous efforts to ensure that the institution notched the top rank from the present 49th rank it occupied at the all-India level.The college principal P Dananjayan also spoke on the occasion.
