Decision on NEET like single entrance test for Engineering colleges soon

The Centre will soon take a final call on conducting single engineering entrance examination for admission to engineering colleges. The decision will be taken post detailed consultations with states.

The test will be on the lines of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and is expected to bring transparency in admission process. It will curb irregularities and reduce financial, emotional and physical burden on students of having to appear in several examinations.

On 11 January, a high-level meeting mulling over single examination for engineering college admissions was held at All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). If implemented, AICTE will conduct exam. According to reports, a senior state government representatives expressed doubts over the idea.

The meeting also discussed the idea of creating a mandatory exit test mandatory for students, who are passing out of college to assess their skill sets.

The Centre and AICTE will meet all state representatives before taking a final decision.
