In a recent development coming in from the national capital, a woman was paraded by her neighbours in the midst of cheering, hair shaved and face blackened, in a disconcerting clip that surfaced this morning. Few women have been taken into police custody for their involvement in the matter.

The woman, who is married and has a kid, was physically assaulted in Delhi’s Shahdara area because of "personal enmity", the police said.

"An unfortunate incident of sexual assault on a woman due to personal enmity happened in Shahdara District today. Police has arrested four accused and probe is on. All possible help and counselling is being provided to the victim," police official said.

The Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) has taken cognizance of the matter and demanded swift action and more arrests. The DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal, who came in contact with the woman, claims that the 20-year-old was also gang-raped by illegal liquor dealers.

"A 20-year-old girl was gang-raped by illegal liquor sellers in Kasturba Nagar area. Her head was tonsured and black paint put on her face and she was paraded in the streets wearing a garland of slippers. I am issuing notice to Delhi Police. All the accused men and women should be swiftly taken into custody and the girl and her family should be given security," Ms Swati Maliwal said.

The violence was executed by the family members of a boy who had committed suicide. The boy's family holds the woman responsible for his death as he was pursuing the woman.

As maintained by the victim's sister, the woman - who is married and has a child - had shifted to a rented abode following the boy's demise on 12th November. The woman was picked up by the deseased boy's uncle from Karkardooma.
