World Cup 2019: History created as Afghanistan defeat Pakistan; young Hashmatullah shines

In a first, Afghanistan defeated Pakistan for the first time in a 50-over match Yesterday. Afghanistan won the match by 3 wickets and two balls to spare. Afghanistan had never won a one-day match against Pakistan, hence they created history in a World Cup warm-up game on Friday.

After winning the toss Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Khan chose to bat first and put up 262 runs on board. Babar Azam scored a wonderful century in the process while veteran Shoaib Malik scored 44 runs. Imam-ul-Haq was the third highest run-scorer for Pakistan as he scored 32 runs.


Mohammad Shahzad and Hazratullah Zazai came in to bat in the second innings for Afghanistan and they provided a solid start with their bats. Shahzad scored 23 off 25 before leaving the field, he was retired hurt as he suffered from hamstring and was struggling to bat.

Zazai scored a quick 49 off 28 balls before he was dismissed by Shadab Khan. Rahmat Shah scored 32 runs before Wahab Riaz dismissed him. Hashmatullah Shahidi was the key player as he scored an unbeaten 74 off 102 balls and took his team to finishing lines.

Pakistan lost their 10th consecutive one-day match after they were defeated 5-0 by Australia in UAE and 4-0 by England.
