India’s thumping victory against the Kiwis put them in commanding position in the five-match ODI series. India on Wednesday won by 8 wickets to take a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand.

Electing to bat first, the white ferns were bundled out for 157 runs in Napier. In reply, India reached the revised target of 156 in 34.5 overs. Opener Shikhar Dhawan top-scored for India with an amazing 75 off 103 balls.


When Indian skipper Virat Kohli was on 20*, he surpassed Windies legend Brian Lara to become the tenth highest run scorer in ODI cricket.

Kane Williamson with his 64 runs knock was the highest scorer for the home team. This was his sixth consecutive half-century in home ODIs against India.

Martin Guptill became the 100th wicket of Mohammed Shami in the ODIs and with this he became the fastest Indian to claim 100 wickets in the ODIs.

Shikhar Dhawan became the second fastest Indian to score 5000 runs in ODI cricket and the joint 4th fastest batsman to reach this landmark.

Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling figure of 4/39 is the third best bowling figures by a spinner at the Napier.
