Virat Kohli 81 runs away from outshining former captain MS Dhoni in T20Is run chart

Indian captain Virat Kohli will look to go past MS Dhoni on the elite list of highest run scorers as a skipper in T20Is when India takes on New Zealand in the five match series against New Zealand.

The 31-year-old has amassed 1,032 runs at an average of 46.90 and a strike rate of 143.73 in 33 T20Is and his ranked fourth in the list of highest run getters as a T20I skipper.

The Indian skipper only needs 81 runs to surpass MS Dhoni (1,112) in the run chart. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis leads the list, having amassed 1,273 runs in 40 T20Is.

Most runs by a skipper in T20Is:

1) Faf du Plessis - 1273 runs in 40 innings

2) MS Dhoni - 1112 runs in 62 innings

3) Kane Williamson- 1083 runs in 39 innings

4) Virat Kohli- 1032 runs in 32 innings

In the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka, Kohli went on to become the fastest to reach 1000 runs mark in T20 cricket as captain and only sixth overall to accomplish the landmark. Kohli, who attained the feat in 30th innings as a captain, is only the second Indian skipper after Dhoni to achieve this record.

Virat Kohli will face a difficult test to combat as a skipper in the Trans Tasman country as India have only played three T20I against New Zealand, which makes their win percentage a paltry 27.27.
