India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is within a sight of breaking an epic record which is currently held by former Indian skipper MS Dhoni in the longest format of the game.

The 24 year-old represented India 25 times in red ball cricket and has a total of 97 dismissals under his belt with the gloves.

In South Africe, if Pant gets a chance to play, he could become the fastest Indian wicket-keeper in Tests to register 100 dismissals to his name. besides being only the sixth Indian keeper to do so. At the moment, MD Dhoni holds the record of being the quickest Indian keeper with 100 dismissals as he achieved the feat in only 36 Tests.

Just behind MS Dhoni comes Wriddhiman Saha, who reached the milestone in 37 Tests. Ex-India keepers Kiran More, Nayan Mongia and Syed Kirmani complete the elite list, having reached the feat in 39, 41 and 42 Tests, respectively.

Rishabh Pant was rested for the two-match Test series that India played at home against the New Zealand team. The men in blue went on to comfortably register a 1-0 series victory. Saha was the wicketkeeper in Pant's absence.

Team India is scheduled to take part in a three-match Test series against South Africa at their home.

The first of the three Tests against the proteus will start from December 26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The second Test will be played at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg from January 3. The third Test will begin from January 11 at Newlands in Cape Town.
