Indian opener Rohit Sharma was born on this day in 1987. Rohit Sharma plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League and he is the skipper of the side too. Rohit Sharma is celebrating his birthday and let’s take a look at his maiden IPL century against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.

On 12 May 2013, Rohit Sharma hit his maiden century off just 60 balls. Sharma remained unbeaten at 109 runs which he scored from 60 balls.


 

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. Herschelle Gibbs and Sachin Tendulkar opened the innings for Mumbai. In the third over of the innings Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Sachin for just 2 runs. Rohit Sharma came in to bat and notched up 167 runs partnership stand together. Gibbs scored 66 off 58 balls, while Rohit smashed 109 off 60 including five maximums and 12 boundaries.

In reply, Kolkata Knight Rider were restricted to 155-4 in 20 overs. Current coach Jacques Kallis was the highest run scorer for KKR as he scored 79 off 60.

In May 2013, Rohit Sharma became the youngest captain to win the IPL trophy. In May 2017, Sharma led Mumbai Indians to becoming the first team to win 100 Twenty20s.

Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians are sitting at number three on the points table this year. They need two more points to qualify for the play-offs. Sharma was picked up for India’s 15-member World Cup squad that will travel to England this year.
