Only this New Zealand bowler can stop Rohit Express in the race to the final

Rohit Sharma

Indian opener Rohit Sharma is at his peak in the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales. Rohit has scored a record five centuries in this World Cup from just eight games and he is also the highest run-scorer with 647 runs. Rohit Sharma’s run machine can only be struck by Trent Boult of New Zealand.

Trent Boult dismissed Rohit Sharma in the warm-up game India played against New Zealand and lost. Rohit was dismissed for just 2 runs and it was Boult’s lethal delivery that bowled him leg-before. Rohit and Boult have met 12 times in one-day international and the Kiwi pacer has dismissed him four times.

Rohit has scored just 88 runs from 136 balls at an average of 22 against Trent Boult in ODI cricket. It will be interesting to see how does the battle between Rohit and Boult play out in the semi-final of World Cup 2019. Getting Rohit early in the innings will be key to New Zealand chances of qualifying for the final and Boult will look to do just that.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma will look to score his sixth century of this World Cup and surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s two long-standing records. Rohit is just 27 runs shy of breaking Sachin’s record of most number of runs in a single World Cup. Sachin has six World Cup hundreds from the six editions he has played, while Rohit has six from two World Cups.
