OMG! Dimuth Karunaratne taken to hospital after being struck by a fiery bouncer from Pat Cummins

Sri Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne was hit by a fiery bouncer on his helmet and was taken to the hospital on the second day of the Test match against Australia.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins bowled a beamer which rocketed into the the back of his helmet when Karunaratne tried ducking the ball.


The 30-year-old Karunaratne retired hurt at 46 and appeared to be conscious, although medical staff appeared concerned about his neck.

Karunaratne’s departure proved fatal for the touring Sri Lankan team as they lost wicket in quick succession.

Sri Lanka ended the day’s play at 123 for 3 trailing Australia by 411 runs on Day 2. Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc took one wicket each.
