Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin and two others have been booked in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad after a travel agent filed a police complaint alleging that they duped him to the tune of Rs 20.96 lakh, an official said today.

However, Azharuddin has rubbished the allegation, and said that he will take a legal action against the plaintiff, Mohammad Shahab.

Shahab, who owns Danish Tour and Travels in Aurangabad, alleged that he booked several international flight tickets worth Rs 20.96 lakh for Azharuddin and two others in November 2019 on the request of the former Indian skipper’s assistant Mujib Khan, the police said.

The complainant also claimed that he was frequently promised online payment, but he never received any money.

In his complaint, Shahab stated that when he asked for the payment, Mujib Khan’s associate Sudesh Awakkal mailed him saying that he had already transferred Rs 10.6 lakh to him, but it was not recieved, the official stated.

Previously, Mr Awakkal sent Mr Shahab a picture on WhatsApp of a cheque issued by him. Mujib Khan also did the same on November 29, but the complainant alleged that he did not receive any cheques, he said.

Shahab on Wednesday filed a complaint at the City Chowk police station against Mohammad Azharuddin, Mujib Khan and Sudesh Awakkal under section 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention), of the Indian Penal Code.

Simultaneously, Mohammad Azharuddin said the charges against him were unsubstantial.

In a video shared on Twitter, Azharuddin said, "There is no truth in this complaint and is made just to be in limelight. The allegations made in the complaint are baseless. I will seek legal advice and file defamation case worth Rs 100 crore against the complainant."
