South Africa captain Faf du Plessis suggested doing away with the toss in red ball cricket as it would help teams challenge better when the play away matches. The South African skipper was talking after his side succumbed to 3-0 loss to India where the second and third Test followed almost an exact model for India.

"Every Test match, they bat first, they score 500, they declare when it's dark, they get three wickets when it's dark and when day three starts, you're under pressure," du Plessis was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

"It was like copy and paste in every Test match." In the recently-concluded three-match Test series, South Africa lost all the three tosses and Faf du Plessis even sent "proxy captain" Temba Bavuma for the toss in the third Test.

Though the move was unsuccessful, it displayed his hopelessness to call after losing their 10th successive toss in Asia.

South Africa started the series on a encouraging note when a ton from Dean Elger and Quniton de Kock helped them put up 431 in the first innings in Vizag but went on to lose all three games by huge margin.

Doing away with the toss was one of the subjects taken up during an ICC meeting attended by captains and coaches earlier this year.

Indian cricket fans on Twitter were quick to react on Faf du Plessis comment on India batting first, and some fans even claimed that the South African captain could not do anything besides making lame excuses after the thrashing at the hands of India.
