Indian batsman in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, played at Dharamsala, performed worst of all time so far. But the explosive and restrained batting of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, saved India for making a bad record. On driving Dhoni's explosive batting (65 runs), Team India managed to set target of 113 runs Sri Lanka. With this, Dhoni also completed 16,000 runs in international cricket.

Sri Lanka decided to bowl after winning the toss and demolished the top, middle and lower order of Team India at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.
