Sri Lanka got better off West Indies in their World Cup clash yesterday at Riverside cricket ground. Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 23 runs. From West Indies side Nicholas Pooran scored a terrific 118 of just 103 deliveries before Angelo Mathews sent him back to the pavilion.

Lasith Malinga once again proved to be handy for Sri Lanka as he took three wickets giving away 55 runs with the economy rate of 5.50. On the other hand the 21 year old Avishka Fernando smashed his first ever ODI hundred as Sri Lanka put up an imposing total of 338/6 in their World Cup win against the Windies on Monday.

In the process, Avishka Fernando became one of the youngest batsmen to score a century in the World Cup. Avishka Farnando scored terrific 104 of 103 balls before West Indies skipper Jason Holder dismissed him.

With that being said, the hundred against the West Indies further shows that Avishka Fernando is one prospect that Sri Lanka needs to stick with and nurture in the years to come.

Even though, both the teams have failed to qualify for the semi finals in the ongoing edition of the World Cup after a disappointing campaign, Avishka did not spare the West Indies bowlers and displayed a great form with the bat. Sri Lanka will play their final game of the World Cup against India on July 6th at Headingley Carnegia, while West Indies will face Afghanistan on july 4th.
