One of the toughest jobs in the world of cricket is being the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The Indian cricket team has seen five coaches in the 21st century and three of them were foreign nationals. In the 20th century India didn’t put much emphasis on foreign coaches but things changed in the turn of the century. Let’s take a look at the salaries of Indian coaches since 2005.

Australian legend Greg Chappell was appointed the head coach of the Indian national team in 2005. His stint with the Indian team is surrounded with a lot of controversies, Despite all, he was the highest-paid Indian coach at that point of time, a record which kept breaking whenever there was a new appointment after him. Chappell received a massive paycheck of Rs 1.24 crore.

Gary Kirsten who replaced Chappell as the Indian head coach in 2007 is still one of the most loved gurus the Indian team has ever had. Gary Kirsten helped India win their second World Cup in 2011. Gary received a paycheck of Rs 2.5 crore per annum.

Duncan Fletcher was appointed as the Indian head coach in 2011 and he kept his position till 2015. Fletcher became the Indian coach at a moment when the team was facing a transition as most of the cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble retired at the same time. There is only one big achievement under Fletcher’s coaching is team India won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Fletcher’s received a paycheck of Rs 4.2 crore per annum.

One of the tallest cricketers of India, Anil Kumble replaced Fletcher as Indian coach in 2016. Kumble was replaced as the Indian coach after team India lost to Pakistan in 2017 Champions Trophy. Kumble received Rs 6.25 crore for his position.

Ravi Shastri is the most expensive Indian coach ever. He was appointed at the position in 2017 and since then he has achieved a lot with the Indian team. Shastri was reappointed as the head coach in 2019 and his current paycheck is Rs 10 crore per annum.
