The hosts bowled out New Zealand for a cheap score of 202 before finishing the day's play by scoring 54 for the loss of two wickets. Captain Steve Smith and Adam Voges remained unbeaten on their respective scores of 24 and nine, the Guardian reported.

Opting to bat first, New Zealand squandered a bright start and were bowled out in twilight early in the third session of the third and final Test. The tourists suffered a batting collapse in the middle session as they lost three wickets for four runs in 11 balls. Opener Tom Latham was the top scorer with 50.

Pace spearhead Mitchell Starc, who limped off the field midway to have scans, was the pick of the bowlers for Australia with 3-24. Josh Hazlewood also grabbed three wickets including the format's first scalp while Nathan Lyon and Peter Siddle shared four wickets between them.
