
Former India captain Anil Kumble has been appointed the head coach of the Indian cricket team for next one year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement during a press conference, on 23 June.

The three-member BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) - comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman - interviewed candidates shortlisted by the BCCI in Kolkata.
The BCCI received 57 applications for the post of head coach, which was whittled down to 21 by the board before the list was submitted to the CAC. Ravi Shastri, Lalchand Rajput, Pravin Amre, Anil Kumble, Tom Moody, Stuart Law and Andy Moles were among the shortlisted candidates interviewed by the CAC.
While Kumble gave his interview in person, Shastri was interviewed through video conference.The head coach Kumble will also have the choice to decide batting, bowling and fielding coaches.
