An outlandish case has been reported in Japan where several schools have banned ponytails and girls are only allowed to wear white color underwear.

The freakish reason is that the ‘nape of women’s necks’ made male students ‘sexually excited’.

The ban on ponytails in Japanese schools is a part of ‘buraku kosoku’- one of the harsh rules for school-going students.

Former middle school teacher Motoki Sugiyama told Vice: “They’re worried boys will look at girls, which is similar to the reasoning behind upholding a white-only underwear color rule.”

Sugiyama further said that he is always against such rules but no one raises their voices against such practice, therefore, it has become so normal. Students have no choice but to accept them.

He taught in the Shizuoka area for 11 years in five different schools and said they had all banned ponytails.

According to a survey in the Fukuoka area of the country, one in 10 schools has banned the hairstyle for the same reason.

Apart from this, many Japanese schools have also enforced other rules like the color of children’s socks, skirt length, and even the shape of their eyebrows.

Students are not allowed to dye their hair and if any students have hair color other than black or straight, then they have to prove that it is their natural hair color or style.
