Sweden: Abhijit Banerjee wears traditional attire to receive Nobel Prize in economics [VIDEO]
Presenting Indian culture at the international level, Abhijit Banerjee, Indian-American economist picked traditional attire i.e. dhoti and bandgala jacket, to receive Nobel Prize in Economics at a ceremony held in Oslo on Wednesday.
Abhijit received an award along with his wife Esther Duflo and fellow economist Michael Kremmer. The trio was awarded the 2019 Nobel Economics Prize for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.
The video of the event also shared by 'The Nobel Prize', in which Banerjee looked elegant in black bandhgala paired with an off-white dhoti. While his wife Duflo wore a blue saree. Their friend and fellow Nobel Laureate Michael Kremer was wearing a black suit for the occasion.

At the ceremony, the three economists were awarded medals and will also share the prize money of nine million Swedish krona (Rs 6.7 crore) among themselves.
Notably, after Amartya Sen who was awarded in the same field in 1988, Banerjee becomes second Indian to receive Nobel Prize in Economics. On the other hand, his wife (46) Duflo has become the second woman to win the prize for economics.
Banerjee had completed his MA in Economics at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi in 1983. Later, he went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Economics at Harvard University in 1988.
