Glitter, tears and confetti as Spain wins Miss World title for the first time ever

Spain got its first ever Miss Universe title when Mireia Lalaguna Royo was crowned Miss World 2015 on 20 December.

114 women took part in the 65th edition of the pageant held at a resort in Sanya, China.

Royo, a 23-year-old model, is a pharmacology graduate. Watch her receive the crown from Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss, from South Africa.

India's bid for the crown, 22-year-old Delhi girl Aditi Arya, won the people's choice award.

Miss Russia, Sofia Nikitchuk was named the runner up, followed by Miss Indonesia Maria Harfanti. Miss Lebanon and Miss Jamaica were also among the finalists.

Earlier this year, Miss World Canada Anastasia Lin was barred from attending the ceremony because Chinese authorities classified her as a person non grata. Watch her speak about the incident here:
