Communist Party of Nepal's Chief Prachanda withdraws support for PM KP Oli's govt

In what could be termed as a major blow to the Nepal government, the Communist party of Nepal's Chief Prachanda has withdrawn his support for Prime Minister KP Oli-led government on 12 July.

According to media reports, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist-Centre) is reportedly unhappy with Oli's leadership.

PM Oli has now called for a party meeting to discuss the further course of action.

Party chairman Prachanda wrote a letter to Oli informing him about his party's decision to withdraw support, reported Kathmandu Post.

Earlier on 5 May, the party chief had asked Oli to join the government under his leadership as the Nepali Congress, the main opposition and the biggest party in the House, had extended support to him.

Reports suggest that if Oli's government dissolves, it would automatically clear the path for Prachanda to be the Prime Minister of Nepal, seven years after he put in his papers.
