Boeing 737 plane with 136 on board ‘skids off’ runway; falls into Florida river

A Boeing 737 commercial aircraft carrying around 136 people on board reportedly slid off runway and falls into the St John's River near Jacksonville, Florida after landing on Friday, a spokesman for Naval Air Station Jacksonville said.

The incicdent took place while pilot attempted to land plane at a military base there during a thunderstorm. Arounf 21 people were left injured. However, there were no reports of fatalities or critical injuries.


The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said on Twitter that all 21 of the injured were taken to a hospital, where they were listed in good condition.

The mayor of Jacksonville to Twitter to share that everyone on board the flight was "alive and accounted for" but that crews were working to control jet fuel on the water.

"The plane was not submerged. Every person is alive and accounted for," the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said on Twitter. The flight was arriving from Cuba, the air station spokesman said.

"No fatalities reported. We are all in this together," The mayor of Jacksonville, Lenny Curry said in a separate tweet.
