Aaj Ki Raat Zindagi host Amitabh Bachchan raises funds for cancer patients

Passengers of a Mumbai local, going from CST to Bhandup on 15 November, were in for a treat when Amitabh Bachchan boarded the train, and sang for the crowd.

Through his reality show, Aaj Ki Raat Zindagi, Bachchan attempts to fulfil the wishes of those who appear on his show. The show features unsung heroes from all walks of life.

Saurabh Nimbkar, who was recently featured on the show, can be often spotted on Mumbai locals, singing songs for the passengers in order to raise money for cancer patients.

Watch a clip from the TV show here:

On Sunday, Bachchan surprised Nimbkar by travelling with him on board a crowded Mumbai local train and sang with him to raise funds.

The actor later took to his blog to record the experience:

"Saurabh Nimbkar, sitting to my left in the picture, who came on our show #AKRHZ .. plays the guitar and sings on local trains and collects the meagre money he gets from co passengers, to distribute to the less fortunate cancer patients and their families, in the city .. his story was heart breaking .. I felt I would want to sit by him and travel the distance he does, do what he does, in a show of support and spirit for his incredible thinking"

The veteran actor was full of praise for Nimbkar's selfless efforts.

"The idea is not to create a splash among the media, or to create credible content for them, or for the subsequent promotion of the show #AKRHZ .. the idea is to let him know that he is not alone .. that he is appreciated .. that our support runs even after he departs from the Show .. to hope that many others would feel the same way as we did when we heard his story .. and perhaps that it may sufficiently light a small flame of hope for many other deeds that need to be done .."

News of Bachchan's presence on the train spread quickly across social media. Here are some pictures and videos of the superstar in the local train:
