In a bid to cub cyber attacks, India and UK sign MoU for cyber security cooperation

Faced by the continuous problem of cyber attacks in India and the UK, state-run cyber security bodies of both countries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for close cooperation on counter cyber attacks. The MoU is aimed at promoting closer cooperation between India and the UK for exchange of knowledge and experience in detection, resolution and prevention of security-related incidents.

Earlier CERT-In signed MoUs its with counterpart and similar organisations in about seven countries namely Korea, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Uzbekistan. Ministry of External Affairs has also signed a MoU with Cyber Security as one of the areas of cooperation with Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

"The Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been apprised of the MoU signed on May 20, 2016, between Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and Ministry of Cabinet Office, UK, as represented by CERT-UK, a unit of the Cabinet Office on Cyber Security," an official statement today said.

"With this MoU, participating countries can exchange technical information on cyber attacks, response to cyber security incidents and find solutions to counter the cyber attacks. This MoU helps to strengthen cyber space of both the countries, capacity building and improving relationship between them," the statement added.

China had also recently introduced new regulations to beef up its cyber security to address the growing complaints of online frauds and leakage of private information on the internet costing billions of dollars. Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China; and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) unveiled a document yesterday which contained new guidelines.

The document stipulates that mandatory national standards will be introduced to regulate the fields of major information technology infrastructure protection and classified networks, Xinhua news agency reported.
