Amazing pictures: Football fever in Pakistan

Pakistan isn't participating in the FIFA World Cup 2018 but there are a lot of football fans there who are crazy for the event. This is evident in these pictures from a congested residential neighbourhood of Karachi, Lyari.

It has been named as the ‘Mini Brazil’ due to locals love for football.

Lyari neighbourhood was once famous for crime including murders, attempt to murders, extortion and kidnapping is now getting recognition for football fanatics.

Currently, the place is decked up in a festive mood. Large screens are installed in different areas and residents seat together and enjoy the matches, cheering for the favourite team.

Flags of different countries are seen lined up in a row and walls have colourful graffiti.

The 32-team event started in Moscow on June 14. A local leader said, “Large screens are being installed at five or six grounds and different streets in Lyari so that people could enjoy watching World Cup matches."

Lyari is known as the hub of football in Pak and mostly during Fifa World Cup people go crazy. From flying flags to support their favourite team, putting up big screens to and rented generators, residents come together to celebrate football season.

There is another neighbourhood called Goth in Sindh which is also a football fan like Lyari. Walls in the village have pictures of Neymar Jr, Messi, and Ronaldo. Flags are drawn on the walls to show the country they support. Young and old play football during FIFA season.
